Only The Best Will Do!

High Grade Canadian Red Cedar

It doesn’t take but a glance to see the difference in lumber quality between saunas, and you can usually tell by the pictures on a sauna manufacturer’s web site the quality of lumber they use. Other sauna manufacturers often use lower grade cedar, pine and other lumbers that are not the ideal choice for sauna manufactures. To perform properly, a sauna requires a soft wood that can absorb the heat, and a board free of knots so that you will not burn yourself. Knots become hot to the touch, and depending on location can burn you when touched in the high temperature of a sauna. Also, knots will eventually “pop” out in the fluctuating sauna temperatures, leaving an unsightly hole where the knot used to be. Almost Heaven Saunas use only high-grade red cedar, and all of our lumber comes from managed forests in the Canadian northwest. The lumber is free from knots and blemishes and is selected for grain contour and color, ensuring an enjoyable and safe sauna experience. Your investment in an Almost Heaven Sauna is an investment in quality that will last for as long as you own your sauna!  Contact 888-355-3050 for more details!

It’s In the Hardware!

October 27th, 2010

What’s in the hardware?  Why, quality, of course!  Almost Heaven Saunas are known world-wide for their high-quality sauna rooms, but did you know that each sauna we build uses only high-grade stainless steel for all of the metal components?  That means that the bands, brackets, hinges and screws are ALL made from stainless steel.  It is just one of the many little details that make Almost Heaven Saunas the cooperage sauna of chose for the true steam sauna lover!  When comparing home sauna rooms, there is only one sauna that meets and exceeds the expectations of the discriminating sauna user; Almost Heaven Saunas!

Why Partial Assembly?

September 16th, 2010

Some Barrel Sauna manufacturers ship their saunas fully assembled.  While this may sound like an advantage, there are risks.  In addition to the difficulty in placing a fully assembled sauna without damage to the sauna or property, there are significant structural issues that can compromise the integrity of the sauna.

High Quality Cooperage Construction

A true Barrel Sauna is constructed in the cooperage, or barrel making, tradition.  This means that the staves are drawn together with the bands that surround the sauna with minimal or zero usage of nails or other fasteners.  The problem with shipping an assembled cooperage sauna is that the handling in shipment will cause the staves to shift and separage, creating gaps and compromising the structural integrity of the sauna.

Almost Heaven Saunas come to you partially assembled.  The Barrel Sauna ends and benches are all pre-assembled, and all of the staves are pre-cut so that everything fits precisely the way it is supposed to.  You can construct our Barrel Saunas on site in 2-3 hours and be confident of a secure and properly assembled sauna.  The hand-crafted quality of Almost Heaven Saunas is without equal, and we delivery an authentic and exceptional sauna to you that will last a lifetime!

Precision Woodworking

We wanted to show you a close-up picture of the red cedar we use in the building of Almost Heaven Saunas.  The following is a picture of the stave used in the building of our Barrel Sauna and cooperage sauna kits.

Precise Woodworking

As you can see, the profile of the wood is exceptionally smooth and clean, and the croze cut is precise.  The craftsmanship of our experienced woodworkers underscores the exceptional quality of our entire sauna line.

As you consider the purchase of a sauna, remember that only Almost Heaven Saunas offers clear, high-grade Western Canadian Red Cedar that is milled to precise standards.  Almost Heaven Saunas creates an authentic sauna experience in a true cooperage sauna room.

Product Upgrade

July 26th, 2010

Since Almost Heaven Saunas are made in the cooperage tradition, there are very few fasteners used in assembly of our saunas.  In the few instances where fasteners are required, we use only high- quality stainless steel fasteners, including stainless steel hinges, bands and screws.

We have just switched from Phillips head screws to Torque head screws, and this is a nice enhancement to our products.  The torque screw is much easier to use and will not “strip” while driving the screw with a power driver as Phillips head screws are prone to do.  And, each Almost Heaven Sauna kit has a torque-head bit included for your convenience!

Almost Heaven Saunas provide the highest-quality traditional steam saunas in the world!  Manufactured in West Virginia for over thirty years.

Modern Home Sauna

June 23rd, 2010

If you are looking for the ultimate in a traditional steam sauna, then you will want to consider the Modern Home Sauna by Almost Heaven Saunas.  Like all Almost Heaven Saunas, the Modern is built in the cooperage sauna tradition.  Superior Cooperage construction creates a sauna of exceptional structural integrity with unmatched craftsmanship and design.

Modern Sauna by Almost Heaven Saunas

The Modern Sauna has sweeping radius corners which are stylish and reduce wasted space, thereby lowering the amount of cubic feet the heater needs to heat.  The result is a sauna that heats faster and hotter than comparably sized models.  The multi-level benches allow you to seek the temperature range most comfortable for you, and the spacious layout allows for more people to enjoy the sauna at one time.

You can outfit your Modern Home Sauna with various accessories, and the clear, Western Canadian Red Cedar is the preferred sauna wood, allowing you to place your sauna indoors or outdoors.  Almost Heaven Saunas are the highest quality, hand-crafted saunas in the world!  Contact us today for more information or to order your own Modern Home Sauna!

The Problem with Knots

May 24th, 2010

Clear Western Canadian Red Cedar

Knots in wood may look charming, but in a traditional sauna knots are not a good thing.  True saunas are constructed of soft wood, which is why you can lean against the hot interior of the sauna without getting hot.  Knots, on the other hand, are very hard, and as such will get very hot.  Touching a knot in a 190 degree sauna will burn you, and multiple knots can make sitting in a sauna very painful.  Additionally, a knot will eventually pop out, leaving an unsightly hole where the knot used to be.

Almost Heaven Saunas uses only clear Western Canadian Red Cedar, and our cedar stave boards are free from knots.  Just look at the picture of a competing sauna brand and you will see many knots throughout the sauna; not a good thing for those wanting to enjoy a comfortable and relaxing sauna session.  At Almost Heaven Saunas we believe in building exceptional saunas, and we take no short cuts when it comes to material or construction! Buy the best, buy the original, buy Almost Heaven Saunas!
