The Perfect Sauna Experience

The sauna experience is defined differently throughout the world. Words like sauna, banya, turkish bath and sweat lodge, all refer to variations of the sauna experience. While the terminology varies throughout the world, in all cases the sauna experience involves heat, sweat and steam.

In the sauna world people can get quite specific about what the “true” sauna experience is. For myself, the ideal sauna experience involves what I did yesterday in my own Almost Heaven Sauna. I pre-heated my sauna to about 170F so that it was ready for me following my workout. I headed into my sauna with my filled water bucket and sat in the dry heat for about 15 minutes. I briefly stepped outside (my sauna is outdoors) and cooled off before heading back in, where the temperature was now around 190F. I then sprinkled water on the hot rocks and enjoyed the steam from my wet sauna, and I did this for 15 more minutes before heading for a shower.

While saunas are made of various materials, NOTHING compares to genuine Western Canadian Red Cedar. The aroma of the wood is enhanced in the hot temperature, and the taste of the hot steam is enhanced by the cedar. Au Revoir, France!

I have never been to France, so I didn’t know what to expect during my trip to the international pool show in Lyon, France last week. This trade show is the largest pool industry show in the world and was a great opportunity to exhibit the Almost Heaven Sauna line to a host of new prospective customers. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Lyon, and I was shown first rate hospitality in every encounter I had with the French. Each night we ate in a different French restaurant, and the food was exceptional in all cases. I had a free day on Saturday and took a walk to the old city, which is very impressive, although I didn’t have time to explore as I had hoped. I consider this my maiden trip to France, and at the next show in Lyon I plan to extend my stay! Thank you, Lyon, for your hospitality!
