4-Person Barrel Sauna
Here is a new picture of an install that has taken place in the past few months. This is our 4-person Barrel Sauna, and it was installed by the new owner at their home. As with all Almost Heaven Saunas, the Barrel Sauna can easily be assembled in a matter of hours by the home-owner.
I like this particular setting because the owner created an intimate and attractive sauna area close to the house, providing easy access for the daily sauna experience! Almost Heaven Saunas are designed for outdoor use, and are naturally resistant to the elements. In this particular installation, the umbrella will help keep the red cedar from bleaching over time, or this can be easily prevented by simply treating the exterior of the sauna with a UV inhibited stain.

High Grade Canadian Red Cedar
It doesn’t take but a glance to see the difference in lumber quality between saunas, and you can usually tell by the pictures on a sauna manufacturer’s web site the quality of lumber they use. Other sauna manufacturers often use lower grade cedar, pine and other lumbers that are not the ideal choice for sauna manufactures. To perform properly, a sauna requires a soft wood that can absorb the heat, and a board free of knots so that you will not burn yourself. Knots become hot to the touch, and depending on location can burn you when touched in the high temperature of a sauna. Also, knots will eventually “pop” out in the fluctuating sauna temperatures, leaving an unsightly hole where the knot used to be. Almost Heaven Saunas use only high-grade red cedar, and all of our lumber comes from managed forests in the Canadian northwest. The Perfect Sauna Experience

The sauna experience is defined differently throughout the world. Words like sauna, banya, turkish bath and sweat lodge, all refer to variations of the sauna experience. While the terminology varies throughout the world, in all cases the sauna experience involves heat, sweat and steam.
In the sauna world people can get quite specific about what the “true” sauna experience is. For myself, the ideal sauna experience involves what I did yesterday in my own Almost Heaven Sauna. I pre-heated my sauna to about 170F so that it was ready for me following my workout. I headed into my sauna with my filled water bucket and sat in the dry heat for about 15 minutes. I briefly stepped outside (my sauna is outdoors) and cooled off before heading back in, where the temperature was now around 190F. I then sprinkled water on the hot rocks and enjoyed the steam from my wet sauna, and I did this for 15 more minutes before heading for a shower.
While saunas are made of various materials, NOTHING compares to genuine Western Canadian Red Cedar. The aroma of the wood is enhanced in the hot temperature, and the taste of the hot steam is enhanced by the cedar. Gas-Fired Sauna Heaters
February 19th, 2011We are periodically asked if we are able to provide gas- fired heaters for Almost Heaven Saunas. The answer is yes, and they are available in either propane or natural gas configurations. People most always install our Barrel Saunas outdoors, and in certain applications there is limited access to electrical power. In such instances a gas-fired heater may be appropriate. A gas-fired sauna can add up to $2,000 to the price of the sauna kit and also requires added installation work. However, the outcome is a sauna that is not required to have electrical power and allows you to place the sauna in more remote settings.
