The dictionary defines a COOPER as “a person who makes or repairs casks, barrels, etc.”, and the term COOPERAGE refers to “the work or business of a cooper.” Almost Heaven Saunas manufactures traditional steam saunas in the cooperage tradition, which means our saunas are built similar to barrels or casks. We are proud coopers! Barrels are built from staves that are notched with a “croze,” that enables the two ends to fit within the stave. Bands are placed around the barrel and tightened, drawing the staves to the ends in a tight seal free of fasteners.
The cooperage process makes for a beautiful and seamless construction method, and one which Almost Heaven Saunas has been doing for over thirty years. All of our saunas, including the Barrel Sauna, Modern Sauna and Silo Sauna are all built in the cooperage tradition. We are proud of our West Virginia heritage, and proud that Almost Heaven Saunas is one of the oldest sauna manufacturers in the United States.
