On this Memorial Day, Almost Heaven Saunas wants to acknowledge the sacrifice of those who have given their lives for this country and the freedom we enjoy. This morning I attended the Memorial Day parade in our town of Holland, Michigan and was very moved by the procession of veterans marching down the parade route. Seeing the scores of veterans of all ages made me proud; proud of this country, and proud to be represented and defended by such a dedicated group of men and woman for more than two centuries.
America gets bashed, even by our own, but it is remarkable that all those who fault America for everything that is wrong in the world would give nearly anything to live here. I say nearly, because only those who gave their lives in defense of free peoples everywhere paid the ultimate price. To these heros and their families we say, thank you for your sacrifice. We will never forget.
May we all have a blessed holiday celebrating all that we treasure and remembering the treasure that was given for us to do so.

We often get requests for custom seating in our saunas, particularly in our Modern Sauna. This is because the size and height of the Modern Home Sauna provides more room to play with the seating layout.
In order to maintain the construction integrity and overall quality of our saunas, all Almost Heaven Sauna benches and pre-built wall, floor and ceiling sections are constructed according to precise measurements with pre-made jigs and fixtures. In instances where people want to change the height of seats, add additional seats or change the layout, we can provide extra red cedar boards in order to do a custom modification on-site. It is much easier for the user to get an idea of the type of layout they might want once the sauna is constructed. Once assembled, the user normally realizes that the pre-built benches are exactly what they want and no further customizing is needed. However, when customizing of seating is desired, it is a simple process to do it once the sauna is built with some extra lumber.

I have always harbored a secret dream of writing a book, and a disfunctional relationship with my dog a couple of years back proved the incentive to do so. Clear Western Canadian Red Cedar
Knots in wood may look charming, but in a traditional sauna knots are not a good thing. True saunas are constructed of soft wood, which is why you can lean against the hot interior of the sauna without getting hot. Knots, on the other hand, are very hard, and as such will get very hot. Touching a knot in a 190 degree sauna will burn you, and multiple knots can make sitting in a sauna very painful. Additionally, a knot will eventually pop out, leaving an unsightly hole where the knot used to be.
Almost Heaven Saunas uses only clear Western Canadian Red Cedar, and our cedar stave boards are free from knots. Just look at the picture of a competing sauna brand and you will see many knots throughout the sauna; not a good thing for those wanting to enjoy a comfortable and relaxing sauna session. Custom Almost Heaven Hot Tub
While the woodend hot tub craze of the 1970′s has ended, there are still those who prefer the charm and natural look of a wooden hot tub. Most people don’t know this, but Almost Heaven Saunas were among the first to build wooden hot tubs prior to the development of fiberglass spas in the late 1970′s. Our current line of Barrel Saunas evolved from the original hot tub, since the concept is basically a round wooden hot tub turned on end.
While it is not a part of our standard product offering, we do build a few wooden hot tubs each year on a custom basis. We do not provide and plumbing and accessory items for these tubs, but we are happy to provide direction as to where these items can be obtained. Duckboad Flooring in the Ellipse Sauna
What is duckboard flooring? It is slatted, wooden planking that is laid across muddy ground, and it is term given to slatted flooring in a genuine sauna. Our Ellipse Barrel Sauna has custom-built, removable duckboard flooring sections that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. They provide a flat surface for walking, and the spacing of the floor boards allows water to drip through to the lower floor as it finds its way to the drain holes. The ends are tapered, allowing the duckboard sections to flow beautifully into the round wall of the barrel. Duckboard flooring is standard in the Ellipse Barrel, and one more example of the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of Almost Heaven Saunas!
